GitHub in the MacBook notch

Stars, forks and open work, per repository.

The 6 numbers Notch Metrics reads from GitHub

Connecting GitHub, once, on the web

Sign in through the provider. No key is typed in anywhere.

The prompt asks for exactly this much:

  • Read your repositories, public and private
  • GitHub grants this as full repository access. Notch Metrics only reads.
  • Read your name and avatar

Your GitHub credential is encrypted with its own key, bound to your account and the provider. Our server calls GitHub and hands your Mac a normalised number, so the Mac app never holds the credential. Remove the integration and the encrypted key is deleted with it.

Questions

What GitHub numbers can Notch Metrics show?
Notch Metrics reports 6 GitHub numbers: stars, forks, open issues, open pull requests, ci runs and followers. Each one is a widget you place in the MacBook notch, sized from a single square up to the full width.
How do you connect GitHub to Notch Metrics?
Sign in to notchmetrics.com, choose GitHub and approve the prompt. Nothing is typed in, and every Mac on your account picks the connection up.
Does the Notch Metrics Mac app hold my GitHub key?
No. Our server calls GitHub and hands your Mac a normalised number. Your GitHub credential is encrypted with its own key, bound to your account and the provider, so a row copied anywhere else does not decrypt.
What does GitHub in the notch cost?
Every connector is included, with no per-integration charge. Notch Metrics is $9 a month or $49 a year, after a seven-day trial that needs no card. GitHub counts as one of the connectors on every plan.
