PostHog events in the MacBook notch
Events are every action PostHog captured, which makes this the broadest and the noisiest number PostHog reports.
Everything counts, including the autocapture
PostHog counts every event ingested in the window: your own named events, the
automatic $pageview and $pageleave, and, if autocapture is on, a
$autocapture event for most clicks and form submissions on the page. A
product with autocapture enabled produces an event volume several times what
its own instrumentation would suggest.
That is useful for one thing in particular. Event volume is what PostHog bills on, so this widget is the closest thing to a live view of next month's invoice.
Reading it
As a product signal it is weak, because a single noisy component can double it without a single extra user arriving. Put active users beside it. Events climbing while active users hold flat means you shipped more tracking, not more usage.
Buckets follow the project's own timezone.

Questions
- How is PostHog events calculated?
- Every event recorded in the window, of every name. Notch Metrics reports that number, unchanged, in the MacBook notch.
- Can I see PostHog events over time?
- Yes. PostHog events is bucketed hourly, daily, weekly and monthly, so the widget carries a sparkline alongside the headline figure, and a comparison against the previous window.
- What unit is PostHog events in?
- A whole number.
- Which other sources report events?
- Besides PostHog, Notch Metrics reports events from Amplitude. Each provider defines the number its own way, so the widgets stay separate rather than being added together.
- What does it cost to put PostHog events in the notch?
- $9 a month, or $49 a year, with every connector included and no per-integration charge. The seven-day trial needs no card, so you can see your own events before deciding.
