Amplitude events in the MacBook notch
Events are every action Amplitude ingested in the window, and Amplitude's daily buckets are not negotiable.
No hourly bucket, on purpose
Amplitude's Dashboard REST API serves daily, weekly and monthly intervals. There is no hourly option, so the widget offers none rather than manufacturing one by splitting a day into twenty-four equal pieces. A sparkline that invents its own resolution is worse than a coarser one.
What counts as an event
Everything your instrumentation sends, under whatever names you gave it. Amplitude does not autocapture by default, so unlike PostHog this figure reflects deliberate tracking rather than a framework's opinion of what a click is. That makes it a cleaner product signal and a less useful billing signal.
Amplitude also charges on event volume, so a sudden climb with no release behind it is worth tracing to the component that started shouting.
Buckets follow the project's own timezone, which is set in Amplitude and not on your Mac.
What Amplitude events means, exactly
Every event recorded in the window, of every type, which Amplitude calls "Any Event". Days are your Amplitude project's timezone, so the figures match its own charts.
A whole number.

Notch Metrics reports events from 1 other source. Each defines it its own way, so the widgets stay separate rather than being added together.
Questions
- How is Amplitude events calculated?
- Every event recorded in the window, of every type, which Amplitude calls "Any Event". Days are your Amplitude project's timezone, so the figures match its own charts. Notch Metrics reports that number, unchanged, in the MacBook notch.
- Can I see Amplitude events over time?
- Yes. Amplitude events is bucketed daily, weekly and monthly, so the widget carries a sparkline alongside the headline figure, and a comparison against the previous window.
- What unit is Amplitude events in?
- A whole number.
- Which other sources report events?
- Besides Amplitude, Notch Metrics reports events from PostHog. Each provider defines the number its own way, so the widgets stay separate rather than being added together.
- What does it cost to put Amplitude events in the notch?
- $9 a month, or $49 a year, with every connector included and no per-integration charge. The seven-day trial needs no card, so you can see your own events before deciding.
