YouTube in the MacBook notch
Views, watch time and subscribers for your channel.
The 10 numbers Notch Metrics reads from YouTube
- Viewsdaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
viewsfor the channel in the window. YouTube's day boundaries are Pacific Time, so a day here can straddle two of yours. - Watch timedaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
estimatedMinutesWatchedin the window, shown as hours. This is the figure monetisation thresholds are measured against. - Average view durationdaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineWatch time divided by views over the whole window, rather than the mean of the daily averages, which would weight a quiet day the same as a busy one.
- Subscribersdaily, weekly and monthly · snapshotSubscribers on the channel right now, as the YouTube Data API reports it, which rounds anything over a thousand to three figures, so 12,345 reads as 12,300. The change against the previous window is the exact net gain from Analytics, so the arrow is right even where the total is rounded.
- New subscribersdaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
subscribersGained: people who subscribed in the window. Gross, not net: unsubscribes are not deducted, so this does not match the change in the subscriber total. - Likesdaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
likesacross the channel's videos in the window. - Commentsdaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
commentsleft on the channel's videos in the window. - Estimated revenuedaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
estimatedRevenue: net earnings from ads and YouTube Premium, after YouTube's share. Subject to month-end adjustment, so the current month is provisional, and it excludes partner-sold advertising. Only channels in the YouTube Partner Program have it at all. - Ad revenuedaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineYouTube Analytics
estimatedAdRevenue: the advertising part of estimated revenue alone, with YouTube Premium earnings excluded. Also subject to month-end adjustment. - Revenue per milledaily, weekly and monthly · sparklineEstimated revenue per thousand views, computed over the whole window rather than averaged across daily rates. This is RPM as YouTube Studio reports it, meaning total revenue over total views with every view counted. It is not CPM, which is per thousand ad impressions and counts only monetised playbacks.
Connecting YouTube, once, on the web
Sign in through the provider. No key is typed in anywhere.
The prompt asks for exactly this much:
- Read your YouTube channel's analytics and estimated revenue
After authorising, you pick which channel?.
Your YouTube credential is encrypted with its own key, bound to your account and the provider. Our server calls YouTube and hands your Mac a normalised number, so the Mac app never holds the credential. Remove the integration and the encrypted key is deleted with it.

Questions
- What YouTube numbers can Notch Metrics show?
- Notch Metrics reports 10 YouTube numbers: views, watch time, average view duration, subscribers, new subscribers, likes, comments, estimated revenue, ad revenue and revenue per mille. Each one is a widget you place in the MacBook notch, sized from a single square up to the full width.
- How do you connect YouTube to Notch Metrics?
- Sign in to notchmetrics.com, choose YouTube and approve the prompt. Nothing is typed in, and every Mac on your account picks the connection up.
- Does the Notch Metrics Mac app hold my YouTube key?
- No. Our server calls YouTube and hands your Mac a normalised number. Your YouTube credential is encrypted with its own key, bound to your account and the provider, so a row copied anywhere else does not decrypt.
- What does YouTube in the notch cost?
- Every connector is included, with no per-integration charge. Notch Metrics is $9 a month or $49 a year, after a seven-day trial that needs no card. YouTube counts as one of the connectors on every plan.
